Tibetans have to sing "patriotic songs"

In June, a new campaign was launched throughout the so-called "Tibet Autonomous Region" forcing families to turn off a family member to sing patriotic songs. These had songs in which the Communist Party is praised on the 1. July, the founding date of the party, on public occasions. For refusal, fines were threatened, the highest in Shigatse, the second largest city in Tibet.

An informant from RFA in Choeshur County reported that officials practiced the songs. However, several Tibetans who are illiterate could not read the texts and asked for a dispensation, which they were denied. The threatened fines and the psychological pressure exerted on her had been unbearable.
