Chinese spy arrested in Tibetan settlement in Delhi

Indian police have arrested a Chinese man in the northern district of Delhi, Majnuka-Tilla, who is accused of leading a spy ring against Tibetans. The arrest of the 39-year-old Chinese, whose name is given to Charlie Peng, was in a top-secret action by an Indian police special force on the 13. September. Prior to the action, the Chinese had been under surveillance for some time while making suspicious trips to other Tibetan-populated areas in Himachal Pradesh.

The Times of India newspaper reports that it is a "highly trained" agent who spied on behalf of the Chinese government to exile the Tibetan exile in Majnuka-Tilla. The arrested man was from Nanching and moved to India five years earlier, where he married an Indian and acquired an Indian passport. He disguised himself as a businessman with an exchange office in Gurgaon, south of Delhi.

If the allegations are confirmed, this year would be the second case of Chinese espionage against Tibetans in exile. In Sweden, a Tibetan was sentenced to 22 months in June for the same offense.
