The organization Freedom House published its annual report "Freedom in the World 2023". As in 2021 and 2022, Tibet ranks last. Political and civil rights and freedoms are evaluated using a points system.
Tibet received a score of -2 out of a possible 40 points for political rights and a score of 3 out of a possible 60 points for civil liberties. With an overall score of 1 out of 100, Tibet ranks last, along with South Sudan and Syria.
Freedom House highlights two developments in the report on Tibet. During the pandemic, the mass lockdown in inhumane conditions, where the healthy and the sick were imprisoned without separation, was also used to repress Tibetans. Furthermore, the mass collection of DNA samples is denounced.
